WATCH: 18-Year-Old Produces Kendrick Lamar Song On iPhone

Who says you need a fancy recording studio with expensive mics to make high-quality music?

Steve Lacy of The Internet has never said that.

At just 18 years old, he used an iPhone to produce a track for Kendrick Lamar.

An 18-Year-Old, An iPhone, And Kendrick Lamar

Lacy has shown us that you don’t need to drop hundreds of dollars to record pro-sounding music.

You just need your iPhone, your guitar, and GarageBand.

He’s not the first band to record an album on an iPhone, or even on an iPad. But Lacy has gotten a lot of buzz over this.

He produced the song “PRIDE” from Lamar’s album DAMN. entirely with his iPhone, reports Wired.

Not only was “PRIDE” on the multiple-award-winning album, but the song also charted in the top 100 or top 50 in several countries.

All this from a kid with his iPhone.

What Musicians Can Learn From This Story

Technology has advanced so far that, as we see with Lacy, anyone can whip out their phone and make a song.

It’s the best time ever to be a driven musician. And it’s the worst time to be a musician who likes to make excuses.

The playing field has officially been leveled.

Yes, it can be nice to have decent recording equipment. But not everyone can afford that.

And everyone should have a chance to record and release high-quality music. Thanks to modern technology in the recording industry, we all have that chance.

If an 18-year-old with an iPhone can produce a track for one of the biggest rappers today, you can make music you’re proud of regardless of your equipment.

Have you ever tried to record a song on your phone? If so, tell us about your experience in the comments!
